Today his work looks mid-Victorian but with all its faults, measured by later standards, it still had a popular appeal that the most beautiful “architectural” drawing lacks. His buildings were of brick and stone, not white paper and India ink; his skies were blue with real clouds in them, which cast cloud shadows in a fascinating way across even the most monotonous of facades. His streets were full of people who were doing something, not just figures, gaitered and caned, obligingly standing still to give scale to the building[1] ».

[1] Kenneth Clark, « The renderings of an early master », dans Pencil Points, vol VII, n° 1, janvier 1926, p. 3.

Date de publication : 1897

Dimensions : 98 x 76,5 cm

Condition : Très bon

Couleur : Coloris Original

Technique : Lithographie

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1031/7751/9439/files/8938-Former-New-York-Life-Insurance-Company-Building_985dd792-a17d-448a-8ebf-53afac3ab06f.jpg?v=1786620311
https://rare-books-revival-ni470-ssjtnv03.myshopify.com/products/former-new-york-life-insurance-company-building
